The Savute Channel stopped flowing in 1980 and what was a hippo-filled river, is now wide, open grasslands, although in recent years the Channel has 'flowed' along varying distances of its length. This area is a legendary predators enclave and Savuti Camp is ideally situated along this Channel - its waterhole the only source of water for both quantities and varieties of wildlife.
